Never underestimate your ability to manifest success.
You have the power to envision the change you want, along with your ability to set goals that will help you achieve success. As my first coach (my dad) told me: “if you can’t visualize your shot going in the basket after it leaves your hands, there’s less of a chance of it going in.”
Fast forward to this weekend. I’m cleaning out boxes in my home and I stumble upon an old scrapbook. As I flip through the pages I found a sketch that I drew in 2020. I was in awe of how certain features resembled the home we bought this year. I then remembered at the time, I pointed to the sketch at told my husband “just an fyi- this is the house we’ll buy”. His reply? “Ok, cool”.
When I drew this rough sketch I was in a tough place mentally: it was the start of the pandemic, my job prospects were poor, the sale of our NYC apartment was denied by the coop board, and I was mentally exhausted by the shootings of unarmed black men and women. I took out my sketchbook, scribbled a few things down, and decided to picture what an ideal house would be for us.
Fast forward to today. While it isn’t the replica of the home we own today, there are a few details that came to fruition:
-I envisioned a house that was safe, felt like a home, and was filled with love. Check!
-I hoped for a two-level house, something with a prominent staircase. Check!
-I sought out a home with a small front porch, max two steps, and a cute front door. Check!
-I pictured a home with clean-looking siding, and nice shrubs in the front (as Kurt calls them: “plant life”). Check check!
The first picture above was drawn way before we knew what living through a pandemic would mean, what state we’d be living in, what jobs we’d have, and how our family would look.
I share this simple sketch to remind anyone reading this to NEVER be afraid to visualize, write down, or sketch out goals you have for the future. Your intentions are more powerful than you think!
The right mindset can help you push past any barrier you have in front of you, whether it be a stressful job, a tough family situation, or a personal roadblock. Continue to stay positive, work hard, and you will reach any goal you set for yourself!
